Lydia Yoder, MGIS

I am a cartographer and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) professional with a love of creating visually compelling maps and data visualizations. I graduated with a Master's degree in GIS from Penn State in December 2024, following a decade of experience working in non-profit coordination. I have a BA in Environmental Science from Goshen College (2013).

Maps are tools for decision-making. A thoughtfully-designed map can help organizations and governments gain insights to guide their work. I am particularly interested in spatial data analysis and visualization that supports work around public transportation and active transportation, housing, social justice, environmental justice, ecology, and climate.

I live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with my spouse and my three-year-old twins. (My current favorite toddler question is "Is outer space underground?"). My hobbies ebb and flow between biking, gardening, woodworking, playing stringed instruments, reading cli-fi, shoveling sidewalks, bouldering, watching Survivor, reading local gossip on r/Pittsburgh, birding, swimming in rivers, and many more.
